Mission/Purpose

This website is to assist county extension educators and county officials to assess their local community for Homeland Security Issues. This site discusses a series of partnership forums that were conducted in Virginia and summarizes the outcomes from these first responders to emergency issues (both natural and man-made disasters).

The site focuses on how extension educators and county officials can stimulate their community to review the possible targets and threats and develop an understanding of the gaps and strengths of the community. The steps show how to develop an action plan to overcome these community weakness and develop an educational plan that will assure the security and safety of the community. The site also presents educational resources from several sources such as state emergency response teams and EDEN (Extension Disaster Education Network).
